Our end of the coastline is focused around Selong Belanak, stretching east 10mins to Tampah and 20mins west to Belongas bay. Other than Kuta, Selong Belanak has the only direct access road to the airport (25mins). Other than Tanjung Ann, Selong Belanak has the only true white sand surf beach.
As an investment destination it is superior to every other beach in South Lombok.
// JABON HILLS
// selong belanak
Selong Belanak is widely regarded as the prettiest beach in South Lombok.
Unlike almost every other beach which faces south, Selong Belanak is on a bend in the coastline and faces west. Which means a number of things from the fine white sand, lack of underlying rocks or reef, gentle surf, offshore winds and sunset views over the water.
Four of the five largest luxury villa projects are located here (Selong Selo, Samara, Tampah Hills, Invest Islands), as are three of the four beachfront restaurants (Laut Biru, Segara, Amber). It’s easy to see why.
Most importantly Selong Belanak has retained its original character, which Kuta Lombok has not…empty white sand beaches, quiet country roads and picturesque landscapes. There is alot of development going on but its mostly residential villa development and tucked discretely in the hills. The beaches remain largely undeveloped and there are no plans for that to change anytime soon.
Jabon are the Hills that overlook Selong Belanak.
This area has traditionally been a quiet farming community growing rice, tobacco and corn. Life is simple and peaceful. Time moves slowly. Trade winds blow constantly. Water is limited, so farming is limited and the local community is poor.
The front facing slopes of these hills happens to have stunning sea views of Selong Belanak with Mawi on the left and Serangan on the right. In recent years alot of this front facing land has sold to foreign investors, however very few have built.
Selong Selo has taken the lead with +35 villas luxury villas and Restaurant (Aura) with an estimated investment of 20++ million USD dollars (<1km east of DUNIA). The rest of hills are slowly filling in with small independent villas such as EmHill and KiriKan (<300m below DUNIA).
STUNNING BEACHES
Selong Belanak is home to the prettiest beach, best surfing, swimming and sunsets in South Lombok. But there are several other beaches within a short distance.
Neighboring Mawi has the best surf on the island during the dry season. Likewise neighboring Serangan in the wet season. Belongas Bay has some of the best fishing. In between these 3 beaches there are dozens of others, some secret.
As more villas come online in the area, more operators will provide water sports services and open up the full potential this coastline has to offer - fishing, standup paddling, kayaking…etc.
UNSPOILT NATURE
The beaches are beautiful but so too are the beachflats stretching behind and hills towering above.
In the dry season the flats are full of tobacco fields and in the wet season full of rice paddies. Local fishermen bring in the days catch, buffalos walk around everywhere and farmers tend to their fields. There is no traffic, beeping horns or hawkers. The pace of life is slow, still dictated by the weather and seasons.
Its a very different atmosphere from Kuta Lombok just 30mins away and a completely different world from Bali.
LUXURY DEVELOPMENTS facilitate
In greenfield locations the larger commercial / residential developments are needed to get an area established, before smaller independent developments can come in.
This is largely because these larger projects have restaurants, cafes and facilities attached, but also because they condition the local community. Less than 10 years ago, Selong Belanak economy was almost exclusively agriculture and very few people could speak basic English.
Over the past 10 years, Selong Belanak has attracted the largest luxury villa developments in South Lombok - Selong Selo (<1km from DUNIA), Sempiak Villas (<2km), Twin Peaks (4km), Samara (5km) Invest Islands (6km), Tampah Hills (7km). For example Selong Selo has the only restaurant in Jabon, while Sempiak and Twin Peaks have our favorite beachfront restaurants (Laut Biru)(Segara).
Breathtaking views
Timeless views and cool seabreezes personify the Jabon hills.
Surrounded by hills on all sides with very an absence of block hotels or large scale development, Selong Bay is a sea of green against a backdrop of blue. At night, the local lobster farms light up the bay like a Christmas tree.
Open ocean seaviews are lovely, but they are not unique. The view from any open stretch of coastline will always be the same. Due to the unique bend in the coastline and topography either end, Selong Belanak has a special view you do not get anywhere else. Thats whats special about Jabon. Its a view that never gets old and cannot find elsewhere.
